Large gunga (woven pandanus) earrings - cream, red and ochre
These beautiful statement earrings from Eastern Arnhem Land are delicately woven from locally harvested pandanus, which is carefully flayed and dried before being coloured using natural dyes. Using traditional techniques and incredible patience, artist and jewellery maker Wopurruwuy has produced a truly beautiful pair of earrings to be treasured.
Earrings are circular, measuring approximately 5.5 cm diameter, with a hanging length of approximately 7.5 cm. The weaving is secured with thread made from the bark of the Kurrajong, Paperbark or Banyan tree, depending on the season, and finished with sterling silver fixings.
Please note that as a hand made item, each pair of earrings is a one-of-a-kind item, with some variation in colour and size, and seasonal variations impacting the colours and availability of source materials.
