Woven pandanus earrings - brown and cream

These beautiful statement earrings are delicately woven from locally harvested pandanus, carefully flayed and dried before being coloured using natural dyes. The weaving is secured with thread made from the bark of the Kurrajong, Paperbark or Banyan tree, depending on the season, and finished with sterling silver fixings.

Earrings are approximately circular, ranging from 4.0 - 4.5 cm diameter, with a hanging length of approximately 6 cm.

Each pair of earrings is made by hand and is a one-of-a-kind item, there will be some variation in colour and size due to the handmade nature of the earrings and seasonal variations impacting the colours and availability of source materials.

About the Arts Centre

Buku Larrnggay Mulka Arts Centre is a community enterprise run by the Yolŋu People of Northeast Arnhem Land, where local artists and craftspeople produce art made from naturally found materials. Based in Yirrkala, local women produce jewellery using traditional techniques to source, dye, thread and weave locally found plants and seeds, often making use of a by-product of a plant harvested for another purpose, so that as much as possible of the plant is used.
